简单说，名词化即是动词或形容词被用作名词的现象。比如动词转成名词：discovery->discovery，move->movement，refuse->refusal，又比如形容词转成名词：careless->carelessness，difficult->difficulty，intense->intensity。那么什么情况下，我们需要进行名词化呢?

A谓语动词的宾语部分原句：Idonotknoweitherwhatshemeantorwhatheintends.名词化：Idonotknoweitherhermeaningorhisintentions.

B结合被动形式原句：Ifpeopledecidewithoutenoughpersuasiveinformation，...名词化：Ifadecisionismadewithoutenoughpersuasiveinformation，...

C取代诸如从句中thefactthat"的用法原句：ThefactthatIdeniedwhatheaccusedmeofimpressedthejury.名词化：Mydenialofhisaccusationsimpressedthejury.更好的名词化：a.WhenIdeniedhisaccusations，Iimpressedthejury.b.Indenyinghisaccusations，Iimpressedthejury.

D名词化部分用在thereis/are的后面原句：Wedemandthatthegovernmentstoptaxingentertainment.名词化：Thereisademandforanendtotaxationonentertainment.原句：Thefloodsconsiderablyerodedtheland.名词化：Therewasconsiderableerosionofthelandfromthefloods.

然而，有些时候，在我们的思维方式中认为理所应当使用名词化"时，老外认为是没有必要的。

比如：A名词化部分跟在动词后面原句(名词化冗余")：Thepoliceconductedaninvestigationintothematter.改后：Thepoliceinvestigatedthematter.

B名词化部分作为主语原句：Ourdiscussionisconcernedwithataxcut.改后：Wediscussedataxcut.

C连续进行名词化原句：a.First，shereviewedtheevolutionofthedorsalfin.b.Therewasafirstareviewoftheevolutionofthedorsalfin.改后：First，shereviewedhowthedorsalfinevolved.

D连接部分名词化原句：Theircessationofhostilitieswasbecauseoftheirpersonnellosses.改后：Theyceasedhostilitiesbecausetheylostpersonnel.原句：Theinstabilityofthemotorhousingdidnotprecludethecompletionofthefieldtrials.改后：Eventhoughthemotorhousingwasunstable，theresearchstaffcompletedthefieldtrials.
